The Chat
A chat is used for the direct synchronous exchange with the students, the protocol can be saved.
- The most frequently used chat scenarios are the consultation hours. So far, only a few have accepted it well.
- The more successful use of the chat is the accompanying tutorial support. For more complex, synchronous courses in virtual classrooms, it may be advisable to schedule a second teacher or student assistant as a tutor in the chat. Intermediate questions can be collected and answered, but the second person can also help with technical problems.
- Chats are well suited for conducting expert interviews. In advance, you should collect questions in the discussion forum.
- In the chat you can seize spontaneous suggestions on specific topics. Especially suitable for this is the moderated circle talk, in which the participants can say something about the topic in a fixed order.
The advantage of having a chat in Moodle is that students are already logged in and no login details need to be exchanged. After selecting the activity „chat“, a selection menu opens. Next to the name and description, you can specify the date and time of the next chat session (under „next chat“). The chat room can be used at any time, regardless of the selected time slot. If you want to control the usage more strictly, you can switch the chat invisible. But then you need to communicate the time frame for using the chat somewhere else.
